About me

I thought I should write a little bit about me so that you can get a feel for whether we're on the same kind of wavelength and therefore whether you might be interested in the places that I blog about.

So I'm female, in my forties, and I've lived in London for the past 26 years (Kensington, Fulham, Chelsea, Wimbledon and Richmond).

I share a home with my long-suffering partner and our gorgeous tabby cat called Ziggy.

We have a little garden (much of it in the shade of trees) with four raised beds where we try to grow some of our own veggies - with unbounded hope and varying degrees of success.

Things I love:
Gardens and all things garden related
Tea and cake (a cup of Darjeeling with a slice of coffee and walnut cake please!)
Theatre, opera and ballet
Museums and art galleries (the Victoria & Albert is a favourite)
Movies (especially a good Woody Allen and anything with Audrey Tautou)
Gertie, my bicycle, named after Gertrude Jekyll
Style rather than fashion (thanks to a recent fixation with Paris and all things chic)
Restaurants with character as well as good food

Things I don't love:
Anywhere that's too noisy to have a conversation
Wet summers
Junk food
Crowds
Oxford Street shopping (so many nicer places to go)
Hollywood blockbuster films (they almost always disappoint)
Poor customer service
Fuschias and mahonias (sorry but we all have our likes and dislikes!)

Best holiday destinations (so far): New York, Florence, Paris, Seville, Istanbul, Cape Cod and Sri Lanka.

I'm an obsessive organiser and in my element when arranging a trip.  So much research to do to make the most of the time and to ensure things run as smoothly as possible.  This inevitably means a lot of time wandering around the world wide web for information.  There's lots of really great, useful stuff out there ... plus a lot of not so useful stuff.  So I'm writing this from the viewpoint of what I would find interesting if I was planning a trip to London.  I imagine visitors from other countries would find it the most helpful but I hope that even Londoners will find some new things to try or places to visit.

Finally, any feedback will be appreciated and any questions relating to London attractions are always welcome.

Enjoy London!
Debbie
